Nature of Work:

This classification describes routine manual work performed under the direction of Research Animal Attendants or Veterinary Technicians. Primary responsibilities include basic care of clinical/teaching/research animals and maintenance of animal holding areas. Individuals may be assigned tasks which involve direct contact with both large and small animals

Examples of Work:

-Cleans and disinfects cages, pens, stalls, surgeries and barns according to prescribed standards.
-Feed, water and groom animals under the direction of a veterinary technician or certified animal attendant.
-Stock basic supplies including: straw, hay, various types of food, cleaning supplies, and other general use items.
-Under the direction of a veterinarian or veterinary technician, restrains animals for medical procedures.
-Drives trucks, tractors; operates steamers and vacuums used in the maintenance of facilities.
