Nature of Work:

The CSU Extension Intern Program will be oriented toward practical experience under the close supervision of the Extension horticulturist in the area of horticulture education. The primary responsibility of the student intern is to assist the Jefferson County Extension horticulturist in conducting the Horticulture Assistance Program.

Some Examples of Work:

-Making reasonable recommendations to the Jefferson County citizens over the phone with regard to horticulture problems
-Assist "walk-in" clientele with identification and recommendations for control of weeds, insects, and disease problems
-Assist with fertilizer recommendations and other soil problems in lawns and gardens
-Work with Master Gardeners, assisting them to answer "walk-in" and telephone problems

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Junior or senior student with a horticulture major Demonstrates a career interest in horticultural education

Ability to communicate effectively and relate to the general public
Basic knowledge in home gardening and landscaping techniques

Minimum Preparation for Work:

Familiarization with educational resources of the Extension Service, e.g. Service-in-Action fact sheets, CSU publications.
