Nature of Work:

To assist students in understanding course materials. These employees will be working with students on a one-to-one basis, or with extremely small groups of students. Their goal is to assist students having academic difficulty in gaining a more complete understanding in order to improve academic performance.

Some Examples of Work:

Assists students in setting up programs for computers.
Helps students to understand math and statistics problems.
Helps students interpret class notes.
Helps students understand text material.
Occasionally helps students with study skills.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Tutor must have thorough knowledge of subject matter in course in which he/she tutors.
Tutor must be mature, responsible person.
Tutor must be able to communicate with tutee feels comfortable in asking questions and discussing material.
Tutor must be dependable, somewhat flexible in availability since most tutoring must be done in the evenings.
Tutor should have an interest in tutee's progress.

Minimum Preparation for Work:

Tutor may be either undergraduate or graduate student.
