System Upgrades for Campus Mail Gateways
Next week the operating systems of the two campus mail gateways will be rebuilt. No outage is expected for systems that use the 'smtp.colostate.edu' DNS name, which should be most of them. If your system is configured to use one of the IP addresses of the individual SMTP servers (18.104.22.168 or 22.214.171.124), you may experience several short outages.
Details: This process involves bringing up temporary mail servers and changing the 'smtp.colostate.edu' DNS record to use them instead of the current servers. Then the current servers will be taken down one at a time and rebuilt once all their queued mail has been allowed to deliver. Delivering the queued mail may take hours or days, so the exact time of the outage can't be predicted, but we aim to have the process complete by the end of the week. If you have systems configured to use IP addresses, this is a great opportunity to change to the DNS name ;-)
Thanks for your patience, we apologise for any inconvience this may cause.
