PURPOSE OF THIS POLICY

This policy has been established to provide clarity regarding the 2022 Graduate Assistant Mandatory Fee Coverage Plan.

APPLICATION OF THIS POLICY

This policy applies to all Graduate Assistants of Colorado State University.

EXEMPTIONS FROM THIS POLICY

None.

DEFINITIONS USED IN THIS POLICY

Graduate Assistant (GA): includes all Graduate Teaching Assistants, Graduate Support Assistants, Graduate Research Assistants and Graduate Research Assistant Predocs.

Mandatory Fees: required charges, in addition to tuition, assessed by the university. These required charges include General Fees, University Technology Fee, University Facility Fee, and Alternate Transportation Fees. The internal CSU SEVIS fee for international students is also included during semesters an international student is a GA.

POLICY STATEMENT

Graduate Assistants foster innovation in the research enterprise, drive creativity, mentor undergraduates, and energize strong teaching initiatives. Colorado State University values these contributions and in recognition has developed a plan to provide coverage of Mandatory Fees for Graduate Assistants.

POLICY PROVISIONS

Using a phased-in approach to implementation, GAs appointed as graduate teaching assistants (GTAs), graduate support assistants (GSAs), or graduate research assistants (GRAs) will receive 100% coverage of all mandatory graduate student fees by the 2025-26 academic year (AY). The source funds for the coverage of the fees generally come from the same source as that paying the stipend. Partial Mandatory Fee coverage will begin in Spring 2023, with increases every academic year.

  • Spring 2023: 50% Mandatory Fee coverage

  • AY 2023-24: 50% Mandatory Fee coverage

  • AY 2024-25: 75% Mandatory Fee coverage

  • AY 2025-26: 100% Mandatory Fee coverage

During the phased approach to Mandatory Fee coverage, the GA will be responsible for the balance of their fees.

Because the Mandatory Fees will be covered rather than being reduced, waived, or eliminated, the graduate community will continue to have access to the important services funded by fees. Mandatory Fees will be covered in semesters when the Graduate Assistant is actively contracted as a GA or actively using GRA-Predoc funds (e.g., on tenure).

COMPLIANCE WITH THIS POLICY

Compliance with this policy is required. For assistance with interpretation or application of this policy, contact the Dean of the Graduate School.
